There’s so much I love about this quote from author Becky Wade’s novel, Undeniably Yours. (And yes, there is a cowboy in the story. His name is Bo.)
But I digress. Back to the quote.
At some point, we are all are knocked off kilter by love. Love for another person. Love for our country. Love for a family pet — or maybe an abandoned animal in need of a home. Love for God, as we grapple with who he is and what he’s done for us — after first wrestling with the question do we believe that he is?
People do write books about love (me, included). And people write songs about love. And those books and songs help us understand … comprehend … the emotion that overtakes us. And changes us.
And another part of the quote I like? The “God help him” phrase. Because when it comes to loving well … loving at all … I’ve needed God’s help so, so many times.

When I went to the Philippines 1 time on a missions trip, I did not expect it to grab my heart to the point I would return 3 more times and hopefully go again next spring. I met brave people grateful for any kindness and achieving maximum growth in minimum conditions–what fertile soil and reward. I’m happy to be any part.

I knew I would enjoy the different answers today … and yes, you can fall in love with a country … with the people who live there.
Most recently, those abandoned kittens. Any other time, I’d roll my eyes at the thought. Don’t let me see them, I’d say. But I saw them. I still have two of them … and I love them. 🙂
Mission trip … stuck with a wild bunch of kids … and one in particular steals your heart … wants to sit by you, and carries a chair with him to ensure he sits by you … and gives you his cross necklace he made … yeah, knocked me off kilter.

So this is love: motherhood. Motherhood knocked me off-kilter with love the moment I held my first baby in my arms. It was as if my heart had doubled in size and I was suddenly vulnerable to a whole new world of emotions.

Ah motherhood — it expands your heart in so many ways … and it continues to do so, year after year after year. Well said, Becky.
Love knocked me off kilter when I met my husband. I’d become a bit of a cynic about love/being loved by someone by then. His gentle words, his kind actions and sincere faith? They knocked me off kilter. To think someone like him would care about someone like me? It floored me. Still does, in fact.
So this is love: “We hug, we fight, we laugh, we forgive. We make the choice to do this life together all our days.”
