Sometimes the Friday blog post seems to call out for a Dr. Seuss quote.
That was true last night as I pondered today’s post … and the “good fun” quote seemed perfect.
Maybe it’s rainy where you are today. Or maybe’s it’s sunny … or snowy … here in Colorado the weather is so unpredictable we can have rain, sun, and snow all in the course of one day. And you know what? We’re kind of proud of the weather-craziness.
Whatever the weather where you are, let’s focus on the “good fun” part of the quote … and how a rainy day (circumstances) shouldn’t stop us from having funny good fun. We have to be like the Cat in the Hat, who spoke this quote, and then acknowledge the reality of our circumstances as he did:
I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny …
But even acknowleding the rain and the lack of sunshine, the Cat in the Hat determined to have fun.
Lesson learned from a fictional character?
- Be realistic about the rain (your circumstances).
- Find a way to have funny good fun. (How can you encourage optimism or outright joy in the midst of your cicurmstances?)

The way I’ve found to deal with actual rain is just to accept it, and get on with the day. I have to be outdoors a lot, keeping an eye on the dogs as they exercise, and what the weather is…it is. My preferences have nothing to do with it, so I don’t bother to have preferences.
Just dress for it, and let thought and feeling go.
For a virtual rainy day…I’ve seen a lot, and I know that they will pass, so I usually just keep doing what I’m doing. Times will be bad, and then they’ll be better. It’s pointless to stress over what is a natural cycle.
By the same token, I don’t get very excited over good news. I might smile – slightly – but beyond that…well, it may be nice, but the day does go on, and the dogs need their food.
And, oops! “Uh, Dad?I didn’t make it outside…you’re not mad, are you?”
That does bring one down to Earth.
And i do hope the shoulder’s melting!
Onthis end…personally, I’m a bit leery of trying to sleep. Three of the last four nights have been measured in pain that was genuinely frightening.

I love Dr. Seuss, never get too much of his clever fun. On rainy days, whether literal or spiritual, I usually put up an umbrella before I get too wet. If it’s unpleasant spiritual rain, it usually works best to recall past has brought me to safety through glorious or sometimes hysterical rescue. That usually makes the sun shine again and turns off the rain,
