“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.”

~Mother Teresa, founder of the Missionaries of Charity

In Your Words: If you were to focus on one line in this quote, which one would it be? “Life is a promise, fulfill it” is the sentence that caught my eye. It challenges me to stay committed to life … to what I believe in … to what God calls me to … to the promises I’ve made.

**I’m visiting my friend Lisa Jordan’s blog today. I’m sharing how my romantic adventures mirror Allison’s, the heroine’s in Wish You Were Here.I hope you can stop by.**

  1. I’ve never read this before. I think all of the lines describe aspects of life. One that stood out to me as reality is that life is a struggle, accept it. I think how we handle the struggles that life hands us determines how well we walk through life. Enjoy your Mother’s Day, my friend!

    1. I liked that line too, Jeanne. Instead of fighting the struggle — accept it and deal with it.

      Happy Mother’s Day!

  2. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. These words struck me as I think about the fight to bring an end to abortion.
Wishing you and everyone a Happy Mother’s Day!

  3. I’ve always respected Mother Teresa & read one biography about her, but didn’t remember she was such a good and wise writer–thanks! I also love, “Life is a promise, fulfill it.” But think for today I’ll go with, “Life is a song, sing it.”
Thanks & Happy Mother’s Day weekend.

  4. “Life is a dream, realize it.” Absolutely!

I read the other day that if you there’s something you want to do, and you know you can achieve it by your own means, then that’s a goal…not a dream. If there’s something you want to do and you know it’s too big for you, then that’s a dream…a God-dream. Love it!

  5. Life is precious, do not destroy it. Far too often I see so many people destroying their lives – and they don’t even realize they have a choice to live a different way. I could write a list a mile long and still not find an end to the ways people misuse their time on this earth. Life, when lived the way Christ intended and instructs, is a beautiful, magnificent experience and far too precious to abuse or take for granted.

  6. “Life is a game, play it.”

This is probably the biggest challenge for me. Yes, seriously—playing is a challenge. First off, I’m not much of a gamer—only play the one or two games I don’t suck at. (like word games… 🙂 ) 2nd, I’m always focused on something, always on some task, often driven to be accomplishing something—sort of OCD/AR that way. Friends know I have to be literally arm-twisted to break out of that mode and go have fun, spend time with humans, switch into recreation mode. And once I get free and engage in play, I totally enjoy it. Get all (too) crazy and recharged. Or more like a PC getting a reboot. I guess I need a PLAY command coded into my shortcut keys. 🙂

  7. What a beautiful quote!

Life is an adventure, dare it.

I’m not adventurous by nature, but I don’t want to look back on life and wish I’d been daring enough to pursue my dream. I want to take life for all it’s worth and live it as it’s meant to be lived. Wild, free, abandoned to God. Not fearful.
