In Others’ Words: Eternal Hope

Always Hope 2015

There are some days that I need to lean into hope more than other days. Not just for myself … I’m hoping for the ones I love.

Hoping for new beginnings.

Hoping for healing.

Hoping for dreams to come true.

Hoping for life to be easier . . . or more satisfying . . .  for the pieces to fall into place in a way that makes sense.

And yet, hoping doesn’t make it so.

Hopes are dashed . . . prayers go unanswered . . . or the longed for yes is a no.

And still I hope. Not in myself, or in some other person to make things right. Sure, sometimes I can fix what’s wrong. Sometimes I can’t. Sometimes someone else knows just what to say or do … and then again, sometimes the one person my hopes are pinned on fails me utterly.

Ever heard the saying “Hope springs eternal?”

The real question is why? Why do I hope? Why do you hope?

My hope is anchored to the eternal God. My hopes aren’t always realized. But God never fails me.

In Others’ Words: What are you hoping for today? Where are your hopes anchored? And if you’d like to share a prayer request, I’d be honored to pray for you.

  1. Where our hope is anchored makes all the difference. Anchoring our hope in God doesn’t remove the hard stuff of life, but it gives us a place to rest. I’m hoping to become more of who God created me to be. Not to get all spiritual-like, but that’s where I am right now. Waking up late, having a bit of a rough morning with the kids . . . I’m reminded of how limited I am when I try to do this life in my own strength. I’m hoping in my busy days, that I will have eyes to see God’s presence with me. When I don’t see Him, I become so weary. Okay, sorry this is rambling. but I hope I kind of shared my thoughts. 😉

I always appreciate glimpses into real life moments of everone’s lives, Jeanne, which is just what you did.
Rough days happen to us all. Sometimes one at a time — and sometimes in rapid succession that overwhelms us.
      We need hope for both.

  2. Right this minute, I’m hoping my nephew’s surgery goes well and he has no complications following a very serious operation. But regardless, I do know God is in charge and He loves my nephew more than I do.

  3. When I finally met her, I liked the relative I was named after, but didn’t like my name’s meaning–sorrow and pain. So part of my pen name when I needed one and prayed for one is Hope. Today I learned that “Asha,” the name of my longstanding friend from India who with her husband just completed an amazing visit was here, means “Hope.” And their 4-syllable last name means “God is real.” It doesn’t get much better than that.

I do love the meaning of names — and embracing the meanings of our names or, at times, renaming ourselves so that our names reflect who we truly are. You are filled with HOPE, Dee.
