Sometimes it’s good to go back to the anchor truths that hold me steady. The faith-realities — no contradiction there — that I turn to over and over again when doubt whispers in my ear or failure taunts me or an invisible someone insists I’m not good enough.
- God is with me. His very name is Immanuel, God with us — with me. (Matthew 1:23 NAS)
- I don’t have to be afraid of anyone or anything — because God is with me. (Isaiah 41:10 NAS)
- God watches over me. Amazing to think that El Roi, the God who sees, watches me. My rising up and my lying down. All my ways. (Psalm 121:5 NIV)
- God holds onto me. There was a time when I turned my back on God, but God never let me go. (Isaiah 41:13 NIV)
- God listens to me. One of my favorite promises: He hears when I call to him and asks for his help. (Psalm 34:15 NLT)
- God’s grace is sufficient for me. I don’t have to be perfect. I can “stand in the wide open spaces of God’s grace.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV; Romans 5:1-2 The Message)
- If God promises it — yesterday, today, or tomorrow — it stays true forever and ever amen. God is trustworthy — and I don’t ever have to doubt him. (Psalm 18:30 NLT)
Am I doubting myself? No. Am I fending off failure? No. Am I allowing someone, other than God, to evaluate my worth? No.
Today I’m just testing the anchors. And they’re holding steady.

Sometimes, and you’ll be stunned to hear this…sometimes I say something stupid.
A girl can’t shoot her mouth off as much as I do and not have a word go astray and hit the wrong target.
So #6 is basically tattoo’ed on my forehead.
Another one? He delights in His children. Which is good, because I have actually said to Him “Isn’t that funny, Lord? That is hilarious!!” and I know He gets me.
Which is good, because for all the times I’ve laughed in church, I need His grace, and His sense of joy.

Isn’t it lovely that God gets us? That he loves us? That he laughs with us, not at us?
In the past two years, most of my anchors lost their grip. It’s been a rough ride, and it’s about to get worse – my mother-in-law, whom I love dearly, is on a ventilator and not expected to survive.
The only anchor that still holds is that somewhere, beyond this world, is another place in which the hurts will be healed.
Andrew, I’m so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I will be praying for all of you.

Such great truths, Beth. I hold a number similar ones to you.
I’d add that God delights in His children (a few verses mention this)
He has loved us with an everlasting love (Jer 31:3)
He is the same yesterday, today and forever (can’t find the address right now)
He will never leave or forsake me (Heb 13:5).

Love, love, LOVE this. One of my anchor truths that is especially apropos today: God never leads us down a particular road only to abandon us halfway down the path. He is my Helper. And I’m especially grateful for that this week!

I love all of these, Beth. Many anchor me. A few others are:
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11:29 I need to know God doesn’t change his mind about me!
He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:24
If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. 2 Timothy 2:13
And one last one I need to read, say often:
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 I am never without the wisdom of God and I need that! Desperately.

Love this!! The truth I’ve had to hold onto most recently is that God’s got this. Philippians 1:6: “There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.”
It’s such a great reminder that He doesn’t start something in us and then leave us to flounder. I’ve embraced that anchor truth in my writing life and my life overall as well.

Beth, thank you for sharing your faith-truths with us. The awesome thing is any of us who are children of God may claim them. One truth that I’m not sure of the verse for is that God is faithful. Even when we doubt, waver, fear, take a wrong turn on our path, etc., God is faithful. He whispers to us, calling us back to the path He’s laid before us. He calls our names, drawing us closer to Him once again. I get chills just thinking about how faithful He is.

Yes, God is faithful.
I often sing “Great is Thy faithfulness … ” Love that hymn. And I love the verse that says, “His mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness is great … ” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow – that’s the anchor I cling to. When I’m overwhelmed, I start listing His characteristics: God is faithful yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God is my strength yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The list goes on and on. Whatever I need from Him, I know He’ll provide yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
So many great verses. My anchor comes from Joshua and Isaiah 43. Joshua 1:9. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed. for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Isaiah 43 1: Do not fear for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.
