In Others’ Words: Nonsense

Sometimes I have to remind myself to have fun. Relax. Stop being so, so serious.

Yes, there are deadlines to be met. Children to raise. Problems to be solved. (Insert yours here: ____________.)

But there has to be time for laughter. Nonsense. A little bit of “what if” and “why not.” All the “shoulds” waiting for your time and attention? They’ll still be there when you’re done having fun. I promise.

In Your Words: What’s the last bit of nonsense fun you indulged in? Got any planned for this weekend? I’d love to hear about it — maybe I’ll be a blatant copycat and put it on my calendar!

  1. I have to work laughter in. I give myself good fodder. Really though, I find I can laugh at so many things if I’m only able to twist my brain a little and look at things in a different light.

  2. Love this, Beth. I definitely need to work a little fun into my days on a more consistent basis. I had fun with the kids at the Harvest Gathering at our church on Wednesday. Tomorrow I’m spending the day with some friends to celebrate a birthday. I’m definitely looking forward to that.

Maybe you and I should schedule some “laugh time.” 😉

  3. Oh I love nonsense. I have about 15 teenage girls spending the night for my daughter’s birthday. Wholelotta nonsense up in my place tonight! My DH and DS are getting a hotel room to escape the estrogen and my BFF “Jane” is spending the night with me. If you’ve read about me and “Jane” then you know nonsense…it is a comin!

    1. Oh, I remember reading about “Jane” — you need to highlight her in another blog post!
Have fun — and plan on a nap tomorrow!

  4. I had fun being the “fish” in the fishing booth at our Harvest Festival last weekend. What a joy it was to hear the squeals of delight when the kids got their dollar store toys on the other side of the sheet. Gwynly added a nice nonsense element. His favorite line of the evening was “Do you believe in the fish? You’ve got to believe in the fish.” A whole lotta kids were willing to believe–and if I knew what they wanted–thanks to Gwynly’s prompts–they got it. Yup! My guy and I make a great team and have oodles of fun together.

  5. The bright colors add so much to this–love it. Fun–not in a hurry for snowfall, but inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilders books years ago, I turn snow into any flavor and color of the rainbow snow-cream (ice cream) so my kinders and I eat up winter–deliciously. So far, pumpkin may have been the most exotic, but the possibilities are endless, and the snow gathering, flavor decisions, stirring, tasting, etc. are memorable fun!

    1. I remember that scene from those books — having read and re-read them to my kiddos. We made maple flavored snow once. Need to be more experimental.

  6. Two weeks ago my husband piled all the leaves up in a huge mound in the front yard and the kids played in it, so I laid down right in the middle of the leaves and let them cover me up, the whole while I took pictures of them from within the leaf pile and we giggled and giggled. I need to have more fun like that soon!

  7. I love nonsense and silliness. Laying on the beach today (yep, in my bathing suit) seemed pretty silly since I had to cover up with a towel near the end of our stay. Got cold. But it was fun to say I got to lay out in November.

  8. Finally, a Date night with my wonderful husband. Saturday afternoon Nap- nice, then Pinapple Fest w/ Eddie Money – Fun, Lazy Movie day Sunday (after church of course). It has been a while (August) since we both pulled ourselves away and really enjoyed a whole weekend together. I am very glad we did.
