  1. When I worked retail, a smile and a kind word after a customer had a (usually ) unreasonable meltdown was enough to make me cry. So please, be kind to those dear hearts who work retail!

I remember when a deaf family came into the clothing store where I worked, my boss and I could see them signing and she looked at me and said “I do believe YOU’RE the one to help them.”
I walked up to the people and signed “Hello, can I help you?”
They went NUTS! They were in the store for an hour and a half! I had to interpret, to my boss, their very enthusiastic opinion of me. I was actually melting from embarrassment, and they knew it, I blush easily. My boss ate it up.

    A smile says “you matter”.
So whenever I’m in line and the person ahead of me acts like a twit to the person behind the counter, I always smile and say “I worked retail, I understand.”
My smile, and yours, is a tiny way to bring Jesus into someone’s day.

  2. I am a music teacher in an elementary school. Yesterday a kindergarten student smiled up at me as she walked out of my class and said, “You’re the best teacher I ever had.”

I smiled because in my mind I thought, “You haven’t had a lot to choose from.” 🙂 Oh well, I’ll take it where I can get it!

  3. My kids have already given me reasons to smile this morning. Thankfully it’s one of THOSE mornings, rather than the other kind I’ve been having this week.

I always try to give a smile to people who serve me in restaurants or stores. A smile can make a difference in someone’s day.

What made me smile today: A text from Lindsay Harrel reminding me it’s only three weeks til we get to hang out in Phoenix! 🙂

    And…waking up and realizing it’s Friday. 🙂

  6. Love the photo! Great smile. And hm. I did smile last night when my agent was sufficiently blown away by a twist in my plot he didn’t see coming. Though it was more like an evil grin, cause I know it’s only going to get crazier! It makes you smile when people read your stuff and enjoy it! I’m sure you know how that feels, Beth! Hope we all have lots of reasons to smile today!

Ah, the writer smile of “Watch out, imaginary characters … your lives are in my hands …”

      Yeah, love that smile.

      Kim,
That’s actually a much younger photo of CJ, Kim.
      I think about kindergarten-first grade.
She was styling back then too!
      😉

  7. My son and dil gave us a calender with pictures of our oldest granddaughter and it makes us smile every time we open the refrigerator.
By the way, her little sister was born Dec. 15. Too late to make the 2013 calender.

Oh, I love photo calendars. I make one every year — and multiples of it for each married couple in the family. They all enjoy the look back at the previous year!
