In Others’ Words: Are You Interested?

Are you interested GK Chesterton 2016

You know how you get to the end of a day and you don’t remember what you did?

Or is that only me that happens to?

Sometimes I’m busy, busy, busy … and yes, I’m doing things. But sometimes what I’m really doing is not paying attention. I’m juggling several things at one time, which in a way is saying that none of the things I’m doing warrants my full attention. And then there are those times I just don’t care what’s going on. I underestimate the importance of what’s going on … or who’s talking … and really, that’s a “me” issue, not a “them” issue.

An important part of living is being interested in what’s going on around me day by day, hour by hour. Paying attention. Acting like the people in my life — the ones I already know and the ones I need to get to know —  are important … because they are.

In Your Words: So, I’m curious — what’s caught your attention this week? People? Events? What’s surprised you? And what can distract you from the things in life you want to focus on?

  1. I do have the gift of being interested in what is going on around me day by day. If anything, I get too interested and have to focus my time. This week I’m happy with the eight adults I’ve met in the new college class I’m teaching, and w/ the two parakeets new to our home. It’s fun responding to and interacting with them. And I’m within a day I think of finishing final polish of 1 historic novel. All good things. Wishing you blessings.

Parakeets — those must add some new kind of fun to your home. 🙂 And teaching always challenges me and makes me think. I’d love to sit in on one of your classes, Dee.

  2. Well, pain and other stuff is pretty distracting, yeah.

But this morning I watched Strawberry the baby Bullmastiff trying to play with a lizard. He retreated into a patch of sage, and she was hitting the ground with her paws, trying to get him to come out.

I thought I was destined for great things. But perhaps watching a puppy at play is God’s Greatest Gift.
