I know people who say that autumn is their favorite time of year.
That’s not the case for me, but I do enjoy autumn and watching the trees change colors. And I especially enjoy the month of October. It’s right in between September and November — the month when we can catch our breath after running full tilt from summer into the start of school and before we get caught up in the holidaze that close out the year.
So yes, I’m glad we live a a world that includes Octobers. It’s both beautiful and a buffer — and I appreciate both.
In Your Words: What’s your favorite time of year? I’d love to know if you like Octobers too — or some other season. And yes, this is a brief blog post, but Wednesday included both a trip to the DMV and a dental appointment that was a bit more complicated than anticipated. So … there you go.

Oh, Beth, I so get the complicated dental appointment…I once went for a cleaning, only to be told that my wisdom teeth needed to come out, and the dentist said he’d be happy to do that now.
Well, why not?
It turned into an afternoon in which the dentist was kneeling on my chest and tugging with a pair of pliers while his three cohorts…er, nurses…kept me from killing him. One was continually bashing me in the head with a fire extinguisher.
I groan to report that he was (in addition to being a super nice guy) a Mormon bishop.
Unfortunately, he took the weekend off and when I developed four dry sockets and needed painkillers, like NOW, he was nowhere to be found, so my friend Alejandro saved the day, meeting me behind the bowling alley.
And it happened in October.
Wait, there’s more! I tried to work on a piece of software I’d written, a structural analysis program for pile shafts, thinking that focus would be a distraction.
It sure was. I made a mistake in saving the thing, and 4950 lines of code – out of 5000 – were lost.
But on the other hand, the fire-bottle-wielding gal was really pretty, and accepted my invitation to dinner, after I stopped looking like a Chinese Chipmunk.

Oh, Andrew, you never fail me. Never, ever. Of course you have a dental story to trump all dental stories … and it happened in October! I’m shaking my head and smiling as I read this and thinking, “Only Andrew … only Andrew …”
Spring is my absolute favorite season. When I lived in Washington State, my best month was Feb. when we first mowed lawns, picked pussywillows, and saw all kinds of bulbs explode out of the ground in rioting color. Last spring I enjoyed a similar experience in Feb. in Mississippi–not so in Minnesota who has VERY brief spring and leaps into summer. Sorry about your more than expected yesterday. I hope today is much better!

It’s a toss up between spring with new growth and fall with the pretty colors and cooler temps.

My favorite seasons are winter with the good will that abounds with the Christmas season and festive Christmas carols heard almost everywhere and spring with the gorgeous, colorful new life and the glorious Easter celebrations.

Suzanne: I love Christmas music too — and I know some people who listen to it all year-round. And my husband’s favorite time of year is Easter.
October is my favorite month of the year and fall is my favorite season! I always wanted to get married in October but when my husband finally proposed on my birthday in May I knew if I waited until then he may get cold feet and back out! We got married in August and just celebrated 36 years.
I love camping in the crisp autumn air, campfires, beautiful changing leaves, county fairs with the bright lights and smells of candy apples and funnel cakes, and wearing corduroy pants and turtle necks!

I LOVE October! It’s my favorite month. I even like writing cursive “O”s when I’m writing out the word October! It’s the perfect temperature (when seasonable) for me and I think the leaves changing colors are so pretty. And last, but not least, Hallmark Christmas movies start!
