In Others’ Words: Insight

Angel in marble quote Michelangelo 11.15.13

Creativity takes a certain kind of insight.

Insight that sees beyond the blocks of marble — or snow — and recognizes the angels or warriors waiting to be revealed.Warrior snow sculpture rsz

Insight that looks beyond the blank pages and imagines the stories waiting to be told … with words that become sentences … that become paragraphs … that become chapters … that become Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After.

Creativity demands vision that sees more than

A what if becomes a startling, unexpected and beautiful reality … because someone looked beyond what was and saw what could be.

In Your Words: When have you looked … and seen more than what others saw?

  1. That is one of my all-time favorite quotes, Beth. It just speaks of hope. Hope that there’s more than meets the eye in each of us. A beauty hidden deep within. It’s nice when other people see it, but the real peace comes in trusting that God does. And over time, He works to make His beauty on our inside reflect His beauty on the outside.

  2. I love this quote, & somehow missed your Wens. post so commenting now as it connects. I knew I could write poetry, but was sure I could not write articles. Therefore, I didn’t even try. Until a friend said she was sure I could easily learn–but she was sure she couldn’t write poetry. I said I could teach anyone to write poetry. We swapped skills and worked on each other–happily successful in both cases. The biggest thing that keeps us from new experiences and progress is not trying.

  3. Love and tweeting the quote, Beth. Perfect with the snow sculpture. I think I see more in both my kids than they can possibly imagine, which is a good earthly representation of how God sees us, I’m sure. Thank you for this reminder.
