In Others’ Words: Friday

“Only Robinson Crusoe had everything done by Friday.”

~Author Unknown

Ain’t it the truth?

I tend to evaluate the week by what I haven’t accomplished. I look at my To Do list and see all that’s left undone.

The result: frustration.

Maybe I need to put a warning label at the top of my list. Something like:

WARNING: It is highly unlikely you will accomplish everything on this list.

And then I should celebrate what I do accomplish. And not be surprised when there are things left undone.

It’s Friday. My week hasn’t gone exactly as I planned. But Then again, it never does. But thanks to this quote, I’ve decided that’s OK.

In Your Words: Did you get everything you wanted to get done by Friday? If so, congratulations! If not, what are you letting go as we head into the weekend?

  1. I usually get most of my to-do list done by the end of Saturday but never Friday. I have an idea…Maybe at the end of the week, we should write all the things we crossed off our list. And if it’s longer than the things we DIDN’T get done, we should have a celebration. 🙂

    Have a great weekend, Beth!

    1. I think that’s what we all need to learn to do, Keiki: Cross off what we’ve accomplished (celebrate a little) and re-prioritize.

  2. I’d never heard that quote before. I’d love to have a Friday to do the things on my to-do list. The items yet to be crossed out on mine are too many to number. So, I’ll do what can today and deal with those that don’t get done later. I will enjoy my family this weekend. I guess the grocery shopping can’t wait till too much later though. 🙂 Thanks for the post. 🙂

  3. Probably not. I lost track somewhere along the way. I have nasty blisters from picking away at our kitchen floor and I reached a delirious state yesterday. I guess you could say I dive into projects and stick with them until they are finished. But I let a lot of the little to-do stuff go (and don’t even count it most of the time).

    1. My friend, get up off that floor and take care of those blisters, ‘k? Persevering is a good thing … but blisters are not!

  4. Maybe once upon a time I completed my to-do list by Friday…but it’s a hazy memory at best. However, I’m learning to set more realistic goals for myself and discerning when I need to a) push harder at productivity or b) just let it go already! 🙂

    Regardless, I looooove Fridays!

    1. I love Fridays too, Melissa, no matter what the To Do list looks like. Fridays are a marker in and of themselves … a time to say “the week’s finished” and to look forward to some down time!

  5. I reached The End of my current story on Tuesday and planned to use the rest of the week to muck out my house, which it desperately needed. However, due to a severe reaction to the Tdap shot (tetanus/whopping cough) I got during a routine physical on Wednesday, I was laid low due to a severe reaction. I’m starting to feel better, but I’ve had to accept the fact that I didn’t make a dent in my list. Oh, well. Some weeks are like that. Next week is coming, and I have a hunch it will be far more productive.

    1. So sorry to hear you had such a severe reaction, Keli. It sounds to me you did the most important thing: Got better. Take it easy, my friend.

  6. Love that quote about Robinson Crusoe…and yes, there’s something about Friday closing the door on the week. Had never really thought about it, but decided you’re right. lol great post!
