“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.” ~Dr. Seuss, American writer

I’ve opened my eyes and seen:

  • Mr. Right walk into my life after I wasted too much time and emotion on Mr. oh-so Wrong.
  • the never-to-be-forgotten faces of my newborns — all four of them.
  • the ugly Truth … and discovered that yes, God’s grace is truly sufficient. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

In Your Words: What best thing have you seen when you opened your eyes?

  1. This time of year when I’m in the throws of a full-time work schedule, I’m thankful that I work with my eyes wide-open to my family. So many people get caught up in a full-time, climb-the-ladder schedule, that they forget what truly matters.

    1. Convicting words, Heather, as I felt some frustration last night as I tried to crank out my word count and family kept “interrupting.”
Sigh. Gotta keep my eyes open on that one.

  2. Hhhhmmmm, I’d have to say my husband and kids, of course, but recently it has been God’s affirmation that he has gifted me to write. He has affirmed me over and over lately, in the midst of doubts and fear. I love it when He does that!

  3. Your post made me stop and think (as it always does)…Glimpses of God’s love in my daughter and granddaughter’s faces after a near-tragedy this past week. And thankfulness as I view photos of their demolished pickup.

  4. That true compassion exists in others. Friends can be one of God’s greatest gifts to uphold us. Yes, they will fail us sometimes, but they are so worth having.

And your first point intrigues me, since it sounds like one of the themes (or subjects at least) of your novel…hmmm. Happy Friday, Beth!

    1. Happy Friday, Lindsay.
Funny thing about that first point … I actually didn’t see the commonality until after the book was written.
      🙂

  5. Exciting new possibilities! As one who tends gravitate to the known, I have to make a concerted effort to look beyond the borders of my comfort zone. When I do, I can see the promise of a richer life that’s available if I choose to venture into the unknown.

  6. What a gift–you say so much in so few words. Makes me want to read much more of what you have to say.
I’ve been pleasantly shocked to find that someone I viewed as almost homely, as in Abe Lincoln style, became one of the most handsome people anywhere once I got to see who he really is inside. I’ve been grateful to have childhood opinions we westerners might have been taught about what Texans were like, or the British, or anyone east of the Mississippi, wonderfully disproved by knowing quality gems in all categories–and learning to discover for myself instead of buying pre-made labels.

  7. Beauty. 🙂

This weekend I’m hanging out at my parents’ house while they travel. They live on a beautiful little acreage, with a ravine leading down to a creek in back. I’m in the sunroom, trying to write my heart out, but a little annoyed at my characters at the moment. But when I look up, look outside, God reminds me: Melissa, if I can do all of this, I can help you write a story, too. I put my creative spirit in you. So be inspired by *my* creativity…and enjoy yourself.

    1. Yes, indeed, Julie … the good news is there is fun in all the years with kiddos … the “little years,” the not-so-little, the teen years, even the how-did-it-happen-they-are-grown-up years!

      ;o)
