We haven’t had a lot of snow in Colorado yet this winter. Today there’s been a bit of snow on and off — nothing much to speak of. But you never know what you’ll wake up to. And about an hour north of here in Denver, the weathermen are predicting 5-8 inches. Then there’s always March, the snowiest month in Colorado — at least in the Front Range and in Denver. So, there’s still time for winter to show off.
Snow or no snow, we haven’t lacked for cold weather. Minus degree cold weather. And I couldn’t agree more: good food (like a pot of homemade soup or a mug of hot chocolate) provides a certain type of comfort. But there’s nothing like time spent with a good friend — maybe sitting in front of the fireplace sipping tea — or being with family, enjoying a game night.
Home wards off the chill of winter like nothing else — and as my husband said, home should ward of the chill of the world.

Who knew we’d have a snow day on the day this quote posted. I selected it last Sunday!
Besides belonging to God, what warms me is family, friends, good books–and friends. who write books. And comforting pics, like that cappaccinno–maybe I’ll put on my snow packs and trudge over for a cup. And later today my youngest grandchildren will come and twine their arms around my neck–life is good!
Come on over, Dee. I will be waiting with a cup of whatever you request, even if it means driving out in the snow and picking up Starbucks!
Ugh, by January, I’m ready for the cold weather to be over. Probably because we try not to turn the heat on (it costs too much…haven’t turned it on all winter!)…so I’m freezing (I know, 50-60 degrees is not freezing…but it is for this Arizona girl!) all the time in my own house. Sometimes I think it’s colder inside than outside because of all the tile we have. But I digress.
My favorite thing in the winter? I love curling up with a blanket, a good book, and a space heater next to me. 😛
But yeah. I can’t wait for March! Spring!!! Come to me!!! OK, feeling a bit silly this Friday morning. Hope you have a great weekend, Beth!

When we pulled up the wretched carpet in this house, I wanted tile. Tile, tile, tile everywhere. My husband vetoed that, smart man. We have wood floors on the main floor, except in the kitchen, breakfast nook and the guest bathroom. Tile in CO — not so practical. And a blanket and a good book and a space heater — I’m there, girlfriend, I’m there!

So agree with your husband. Laughter, shared stories and watching a good movie warms me up. Of course with 68 degrees around here in Mississippi, it’s more emotional than literal.
Agreed, Pat. We lived in Florida for years, and there were days I’d turn on the gas fireplace and put a blanket on the floor and serve my kiddos hot cocoa just for the fun of it!

This winter has been the warmest I think I’ve ever experienced! (Except for the winter I spent in London.) It’s been awesome…just cold enough to inspire soup and scarves and boots…not cold enough to sting my cheeks. But yeah, what warms me up when it’s cold? Soup…space heaters…flannel!!

It never gets really cold here in Bermuda, but on those days when the damp air seeps through and the wind rattles the windows and howls down the chimney, I like to curl up on the couch with a blanket and my laptop, maybe do some writing and catch up on reading blogs and seeing what’s happening in my social networking circles. I have to admit, I kind of enjoy these days – today is one such day, it’s gray and windy and about to rain, and I’m heading for the couch!

My favorite spot when it’s cold outside is in front of our pellet stove, where I drape myself over my comfy armchair and toast my toes. Nice!
A pellet stove … now I’m not familiar with the difference between that and a regular old wood stove. I’m curious. Still sound warm and cozy.

Mmm, I’ll take one of whatever is in that picture. 🙂 We’ve had a really warm winter here, so we’ve been getting outside as much as possible.
And that is the advantage of warm winters.
Although, truthfully, cold doesn’t stop a lot of people here in CO. Skiing, snowshoeing — even running. Nope, uh-huh. Not running in this kind of weather!
You may laugh, but one of our neighbors was pushing her grown son on a snow board (I think) down our street. Not much stops Coloradans from getting outside. 🙂
