“Do They Know it’s Christmas?”, the 80s classic by Band Aid, still works powerfully on me.
The hope for Christmas really isn’t the hope for us, individually – it’s the Hope for the world. Most traditions – ours included – tend to look inward on our own family and social circle, but I’m not sure that we aren’t getting it exactly wrong.
It may be that we fortunate ones are called to be the kings, the bearers of gifts to the ‘least of these’, and that our joy should be sore feet, cold hands, and an empty wallet after this Holy Day in the Lord’s service.

I see your point, Andrew … but I also think it’s only once we individually grasp the hope of Christmas that we are able to give it away to others –to be the bearers of the gift of hope.
I agree with that – if we don’t invite beauty into our own lives, it’s quite difficult to pass it on.
I hadn’t heard that song–very nice and meaningful. After move, I need to locate and unpack our Christmas music–haven’t started that yet. My all favorites are those creating atmosphere and word pictures, like We Three Kings and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen–they take me there.

Haven’t heard that one! I think I must miss out on tons of good music by never turning on the radio. Haha…I’m always listening to music in my car, but I listen through my iTunes on my phone which is full of Coldplay and Needtobreathe…thus, I miss new songs! Thanks for sharing fun Christmasy ones. 🙂

This song was shared with me by, um, I think my daughter Amy. That’s a guess. Anyway, this weekend my son-in-love introduced me to Pentatonix– an acapella group. I really enjoyed their Christmas music too!
I hadn’t heard that one before, either. One of my favorites, believe it or not, is “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” LOL!!

I’m a traditionalist in saying, “O Holy Night” reminds me of the hope we celebrate at Christmas time. I also love “Breath of Heaven” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”

I love traditional carols, especially at church on Christmas Eve. But my two contemporary favorites are “Breath of Heaven” and “Mary, Did You Know?” Thanks for sharing “How Many Kings.” That’s a new one for me.
