In Others’ Words: Veterans

Beth VogtUncategorized 14 Comments

Veterans Day 2013Today we honor our veterans — the men and women who have served our country in the military:

  • Air Force
  • Army
  • Navy
  • Marines
  • Coast Guard

My husband is one of those veterans, and so are many of our friends. Some of our friends lost their lives while serving in the military — paying the ultimate sacrifice changed their families forever. The military community is just that — a community that cares for one another. I met a lot of heroes during the years we were a military family — service members, as well as the families supporting them.

Thank you, veterans. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. America is a better country — a stronger country — because of your commitment.

In Your Words: Who do you wish to thank on this Veteran’s Day?

  1. Please remember the paramilitary contractors, as well.

They go willingly to the sound of the guns, motivated by patriotism and a desire to do something to make the world a bit better – and, yes, for money.

A lot of them don’t come home, and some of them were my friends.

  2. Beautiful post, Beth. As a one-time military family, we know a number of people who were/are active duty. The people I would thank are my paternal grandfather, my father and FIL, one of my cousins served in Viet Nam and my brothers’ in law served. And friends who work supported active duty forces in their missions.

Okay, there are a lot of people. 🙂

  3. God bless our troops, both current and past. Thank you for ensuring my freedom. May God richly bless you for your ultimate act of patriotism, for sacrificing your own goals to make sure I can pursue mine.

  4. I’d like to thank my wonderful daddy who is a veteran, as well as other family members and friends who are currently serving in the military. How much we’ve gained at the expense of their sacrifice!

And I love today’s quote, Beth!

  5. We owe such a debt to those who serve. To stand at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC and find the names of friends who died for my freedom seems such a small thing to do, but I will never forget the sense of gratitude I felt that these men and women were willing to lay their lives down for freedom.

  6. I didn’t know your husband is a veteran, Beth. How proud you must be! Please thank him from me for his service. My dad, three uncles, a cousin and a niece have all served in the armed forces to defend the freedoms we hold dear. Today, I’m saluting them and all who have served!
