In Others’ Words: You Are Here

Anybody else ever want a do-over?
Anybody else wish there was a rewind button on life, just so you could go back five, maybe ten, seconds and make a different choice?

(They worked that do-over concept into the movie Galaxy Quest, but the rewind button had a fancy name: Omega 13.)

But I digress.

Reality is, we rarely, if ever, get do-overs. And I’ve yet to find a rewind button on life. If you find one, please, let me know.

But I have learned I can pause where I am right this moment — stop whatever actions or words that are destroying the end of my life story — and act differently.

Say something else.

Do something else.

Hit my knees in desperation and pray, “Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy,” if that’s what it takes to start new.

Because no one does “brand new” better than Him.

In Others’ Words: What does a do-over look like to you?

  1. I thank God for erasers, pink pearl ones on pencils, or big hand-held size that sweep across white (or black) boards. Yes, wipe out our incorrect answers and thank You for the clean slate as You show us what’s really meant to fill in the blank. Thank you for each new day.

  2. Ahh, this is so. good. Beth. Especially for me, today. It is so ridiculously easy for me to start out Mondays on a grumbling note…and then get to the end of the day and be irritated with myself for not having a better attitude. Your post is an awesome reminder that I can make the decision right not to reverse course attitude-wise. 🙂

Hope you’re having an amazing time at DT!

It’s true, Melissa — Mondays always have a negative “It’s Monday” kind of connotation to them … why not refocus and embrace the day rather than automatically resent it?
And DT is wonderful — but you are mightily missed!

  3. The ideal do-over for me would be to go back and change some life experiences and/or choices. But when I stop to consider that option, I really wouldn’t want to do that since they play an integral part of who I am today and how God chooses to reach me, then through me.

  4. This is good, Beth. Really good. Yes, I often wish for do-overs, mostly with my husband. Why don’t I just keep my mouth shut? But I can open it and say “I’m sorry” … happy for your reminder. I’ll think of you next time I’m blaming when I should be apologizing.
